PRP Therapy for Hair Loss in Kansas City & Liberty, MO
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a substance we use to enhance the outcome of a variety of our medical procedures. While PRP is used in a number of cosmetic procedures, it has proven exceptionally beneficial for hair transplants in slowing the progression of hair loss and stimulating hair regrowth.
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?
As the name implies, PRP is simply a mixture of blood plasma that has additional platelets, growth factors, and cytokines mixed in. PRP is always prepared from the patient’s own blood sample. The volume of natural platelets, growth factors, and cytokines makes platelet-rich-plasma an ideal addition to any procedure that might require an enhanced healing process.
PRP Hair Restoration Treatment
The PRP therapy for hair loss treatment is a simple in-office procedure. We obtain a sample of your own blood and process it in our lab. The sample is spun at a high rate of speed in a special centrifuge to separate the PRP from other components of blood. Dr. Scott Darling will administer the PRP in a series of injections in the targeted areas of your scalp, which takes approximately 10 minutes. There is no downtime post-treatment, and you can resume your regular activities immediately after the procedure. For optimal results, PRP injection therapy should be administered 3-4 times a year.
PRP injection therapy alone can promote healing and boost the growth of new hair, but it is also highly effective when used post-operatively with hair transplant surgery techniques such as follicular unit excision (FUE) and strip follicular unit transplant (FUT). In addition, PRP therapy can be combined with other nonsurgical treatments such as ACell, allograft, and stem cell therapy.
